Luis Mariscal
Luis Mariscal has undergone a profound transformation from a troubled individual to a role model and leader at Red Barn Academy. His journey reflects a dramatic shift from a life of crime, substance abuse, and constant incarceration to one of responsibility, integrity, and contribution to his community.
Born in Utah County in 1990, Luis faced challenges early on, including the temptation to fit in with the wrong crowd during middle and high school. His academic achievements suffered as he fell to peer pressure, leading to a rough period marked by substance abuse and erratic behavior. Despite these struggles, he managed to graduate high school and walk with his class, though his troubles continued to escalate after graduation.
His life took a positive turn when he discovered Red Barn Academy while incarcerated for the 33rd time. Recognizing that his previous actions had not yielded positive outcomes, he decided to embrace the Academy’s principles of accountability, honesty, and integrity. This decision marked a pivotal moment, where Luis committed to reinventing himself through learning essential life skills and recalibrating his moral compass.
During his time at Red Barn Academy, Luis not only progressed personally but also took on leadership roles within the program. His dedication and growth were further evidenced by his participation in college-level courses and his decision to stay an additional year to give back to the program that had helped him change his life.
Today, Luis serves as the Moving Manager, contributing positively to the lives of others who are on the same path he once struggled
with.
